We are consulting on the admission policies for our community and voluntary controlled schools and also on the schemes describing the processes used in Torbay for Primary, Secondary and In-Year admissions.  Please see our Admissions Policies for 2020/21 page and let us know if you have any feedback or suggestions for improvements.

If your child is in year 9 or above and you are seeking a school place there is a wide choice of options. The great majority of children study in one of Torbay’s secondary schools, that take children from the age of 11 upwards. All these schools offer a range of subject options to students in Key Stage 4. You can apply for a school place in year (move into area or transfer schools).

There are also two settings within the Torbay and South Devon area that admit young people from year 10 to undertake a blend of GCSEs and technical training. These are South Devon High School and South Devon University Technical College (UTC). They do not have any students in years 7, 8 or 9 so all students starting in year 10 will be new to the setting.

Find out more information about South Devon University Technical College Opens in a new window  (telephone 01626 240201). It is a specialist College concentrating on Science and Engineering with a focus on employability in these industry specific sectors. The college still has places and welcomes new applications. You will need to apply directly to them. The UTC will admit up to 100 students into year 10 for September 2018, and by 2020 will expect to have a total population of 600 students aged 14-19. The school is non-selective and will give all students a place if there are spaces.

Find out more information about South Devon High School Opens in a new window (telephone 01803 540332). It is based at South Devon College, offers a broad Key Stage 4 curriculum of 9 GCSEs including English, Maths, Science and a wide choice of other GCSE options and technical pathways. Applicants will be required to complete a cognitive abilities assessment. Priority for available places will be given to pupils with the highest overall scores in the assessment. There is no specific number of students who will be admitted to the school; numbers will however be limited due to the need for groups of a manageable size in the physical learning environment. The age range is 14-16. You will need to apply directly to South Devon High School.
