Term and Holiday Dates 2010/11
During the Spring Term 2009, a consultation was undertaken in respect of the proposed term and holidays dates for the 2010 - 2011 school year.
The following summarises the responses received from 16 primary and 3 secondary schools.
- The majority of respondents supported the proposal to adopt a common practice of having an agreed one-week October half-term.
- The proposal to introduce an agreed pattern for all occasional and training days was not supported by governors. Responses from staff suggest that the majority also held a similar view.
- The proposals to allocate three of the occasional days to the 20, 21 and 22 December 2010 and three training days to the start of the autumn term (1, 2 and 3 September) had the overwhelming support of parents and also school staff but not governors.
- The proposal to remove the current flexibility for training days to be worked through additional hours before or after school sessions was not supported by staff or governors.
The responses were considered by the Children’s Trust Board which agreed:
- To support the allocation of the three occasional days to 20, 21 and 22 December 2010
- All schools should be encouraged to adopt a common practice of having an agreed one-week October half-term.
- All schools should be encouraged to allocate three training days at the start of the autumn term 2010 which will mean the academic year starts on Monday the 6th September 2010.
- Schools should retain the current flexibility for training days to be worked through working additional hours before or after school sessions.
- To the impact of these changes being closely monitored, reported and discussed with stakeholder groups
- To monitor the impact of these recommendations on the overall attendance levels of all schools.
