White access lines are ‘H’ shaped markings on the road in front of a dropped kerb. They are there to highlight that vehicle access is required and help prevent access to a driveway or property being obstructed.

Access lines are advisory markings only. If vehicles park across the lines causing an obstruction no enforcement action can be taken by us, you should contact the police on 101.

They are provided on the understanding they cannot be used for the purpose of reserving a parking space on the highway.

If an access line is required for more than one property we need an application to be submitted for each property.

There is a fee of £220.20 per property which is non-refundable unless it’s refused.

Our contractor SWISCo, refreshes such road markings on a cyclical basis. However, whilst faded access lines may be inconvenient to residents, access line markings are not classed as an urgent safety issue and they will not necessarily be refreshed as a matter of priority. Such lines will be refreshed only on a cyclic basis, when a whole road is being remarked and not as a one off.

Therefore residents have the option to pay for their markings to be refreshed at a cost of £180.50. If you would like the markings refreshed please call us on 01803 207740.
