If a book you are looking for is not in stock in Torbay Libraries, ask a member of staff to give you a reservation card to complete and we will do our best to obtain the book for you from another Library within the UK.

It is also possible to request photocopies from serials and periodicals, subject to current copyright regulations. We do sometimes request the whole volume for you to look at, either in paper format or on microfilm. There is a microfilm reader available, subject to booking, in each of our Branch Libraries.

The more details you can provide us with the more efficiently and more quickly we can process your request.

Library inter-lending is a co-operative and voluntary agreement between libraries and some scarce, fragile or locally significant material may be excluded from the scheme, or lent only on the condition that it is read within the Library. Loan periods for books supplied by inter library loan are at the discretion of the supplying library and may vary considerably. They are also subject to recall by the supplying library at any time after the initial loan period has expired.

There is a £4.00 initial charge for inter-library loans and £2.20 charge for each renewal.

FAQs

Yes - A separate request needs to be entered for each individual item and so a £4.00 charge will apply to each.

Yes - We can request single pages from Journal articles or books if they are unavailable to lend. Obtaining these will depend on the borrowing library's agreement. The £4 fee is an administration charge and is to cover the cost of processing your request; it does not relate to the charge for the individual item and so the length or size of the loan does not affect the charge. Please note that a photocopy declaration must be signed for copyright purposes when requesting a journal article.

No - Although it is helpful if you inform us of the location of an item, our aim is to obtain the item as quickly as possible with the best terms of use and this may mean requesting your item from a different location to the one you suggest. There is also the possibility that the library you have located the book in may decline to lend the item to us.
