Drainage

Significant changes to the responsibility of private owners and South West Water introduced on 1 October 2011.

After the 1 October 2011 responsibility for private sewers and lateral drains up to the point where they cross a property boundary will be transferred to South West Water.
As such, householders will only be responsible for blockages and repairs to foul drainage systems within the boundary of their property.
The aim is to reduce the burden of maintenance and repair for householders and to allow a more integrated sewerage network. Further information and advice is available from South West Water’s page on Private sewer transfer opens in a new window. South West Water can also be contacted on 0800 1691144
