The European Habitats Directive on The Conservation of Natural Habitats and Wild Flora and Fauna protects habitats and species of European nature conservation importance. The Habitats Directive establishes a network of internationally important sites designated for their ecological status. Sites covered by this legislation include Special Protection Areas (SPAs), Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and wetlands known as Ramsar sites.
The Council is required to consult Natural England with regard to Habitats Regulations Assessment documents and process, and also to make the public aware of these documents. Habitats Regulations Assessment of the various strategic planning documents are available to view via the HRA of the LDF and the HRA of the new Local Plan pages.
