The European Habitats Directive on “The Conservation of Natural Habitats and Wild Flora and Fauna” protects habitats and species of European nature conservation importance. The Habitats Directive establishes a network of internationally important sites designated for their ecological status. The sites covered by this legislation include Special Protection Areas (SPAs), Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and Ramsar sites.

The Council is required to consult Natural England about the Habitats Regulations Assessment documents and process, and to make the public aware of the documents.
