What is the fund for?
The aim of the fund is to cover capital expenditure on adaptations to homes which are required to meet the needs of vulnerable children and young people. Examples of works covered by this funding include:
- Contributions to the cost of adaptations to private homes to meet the needs of disabled pupils through supplementing the Disabled Facilities Grant Allocation
- Adaptations to homes of foster carers where it increases foster care capacity
- Adaptations to homes of respite carers where it increases respite care capacity.
How are applications for funding made?
Bids must be submitted by the relevant Service Manager in the form of a report to Samantha Poston - Schools Capital & Planning Officer.
What information needs to be submitted in the report?
The report will need to provide the following information:
- Purpose of the request
- Identified adaptation option(s) with the benefits, limitations & associated costs
- Details of the revenue budget savings if the project is successful, if any.
- The preferred adaptation option with reasons why
- Time scales of the required adaptation
- Scope for the Council to recoup investment
- Any other Information to consider
- Contact Name of the person who will be attending the 'Adaptations Funding Panel'.
Who makes the decision?
All applications will be referred to the Children's Service 'Adaptations Funding Panel'. For an indication of what the panel will be looking for when considering a bid please view the 'Adaptations Panel Decision Form' under the Related Documents Panel.
How long will it take?
The panel will meet within 10 working days of receiving an application. The panel will:
- Agree to fund the required contribution in full
- Agree to part fund the required contribution
- Defer the decision
- Refuse to fund the required contribution
A 'Record of Decision' will be forwarded to the applicant within 10 working days of the panel meeting.
