DOG FOULING CAMPAIGN 2010
Who do they think is going to pick it up?
This year Torbay has been chosen by Keep Britain Tidy as a campaign partner for its latest anti-fouling campaign.
As a partner area Torbay will receive free campaign materials such as posters and advertising boards. In return, Torbay will work hard to raise awareness about the anti-fouling message, and will continue to take action against those who persistently fail to pick up after their pooch.
The national campaign will run from 20 September until 17 October 2010 and we would like everyone in Torbay to join in and help stamp out fouling in Torbay!
Although the Keep Britain Tidy campaign artwork has a fun theme, the anti-fouling message is a serious one.
The main aim of the Keep Britain Tidy campaign will be to raise awareness that bagged dog faeces can be disposed of using a designated dog bin or a standard public litter bin.
We’re looking for great dogs and great owners!
Torbay’s new anti-fouling campaign is NOT about demonising dogs or their owners. The council recognises that the majority of dog owners are very responsible and always pick up. It is a minority who flout the rules, and show a lack of respect for their environment and other people.
To recognise great dog owners, we are running a competition to find the dog owner who looks most like their dog!
If you think you and your dog share a rebarkable resemblance, email us a photo to pictures@torbay.gov.uk. The file size of your photo should be no larger than 2MB and please also include your name and a contact telephone number.
The top ten finalists will feature on our partner website www.safercommunitiestorbay.org.uk
and the winner will appear in the council’s magazine, Torbay View. The winning pooch will also receive a goody bag of tasty treats.

If there is a dog fouling problem in your area it is likely that either you, or your neighbours will have have information about who is causing the problem. The Dog Wardens need intelligence from specific neighbourhoods to help them target their patrols. The information of most use to the Dog Wardens is:
- Days of the week when offences are taking place.
- The time that offences are taking place.
- Where the offences happen.
- A description of the owner.
- A description of the dog.
- If the owner is using a car, what is the vehicle registration number?
If you have any information about a persistent dog fouling offender, please contact the Dog Warden on:
- Telephone: 01803 208091
- Email: community.protection@torbay.gov.uk

If dog fouling is a problem in your neighbourhood, there are a number of things you can do such as:

- Ask your neighbours to report offenders if they’ve witnessed offences being committed.
- If someone is dumping bagged dog faeces in your area, tell the Dog Warden.
- Contact the Dog Warden to request ‘Dog Watch’ (please note Dog Watch cannot be made available in all areas, and is subject to an assessment by the Dog Warden).
