Sure Start Children’s Centres aim to help parents give every child the best start in life. They also work towards better opportunities for parents, and a stronger and safer community. Torbay has developed five children’s centres. Two more are currently being built and a final one is being planned. The children’s centres provide services to children aged five and under and their families:
- Integrated early education and childcare - all centres offering early years provision have a minimum half-time qualified teacher
- Support for parents - including advice on parenting, local childcare options and access to specialist services for families
- Child and family health services - ranging from health screening, health visitor services to breast-feeding support
- Helping parents into work - with links to the local Jobcentre Plus and training
