No Cold Calling Home

The ‘No Cold Calling Homes’ initiative is a scheme to help combat the problem of doorstep crime.  
The Torbay project is similar in concept to No Cold Calling Zones; however Zones can only be introduced when a majority of residents agree to it. We want any of our residents to have a ‘No Cold Calling Home’ if they want one regardless of what the rest of the neighbourhood may think. Our aim is to help deter cold callers across the Bay wherever a ‘No Cold Calling’ sticker is displayed.
Research into Zones shows that these initiatives work; they are a proven success and residents living in Zones feel safer and more confident when dealing with cold callers.  We believe we can achieve the same results across Torbay with our No Cold Calling Homes scheme.

How do I make my property a 'No Cold Calling Home'?

If residents wish to make their property a ‘No Cold Calling Home’ they should request a free information pack from Trading Standards.  The pack contains a ‘No Cold Calling Homes’ door sticker, an ‘Advice to Homeowners’ sheet, a ‘Buying at Home’ advice leaflet, and some Reporting Forms should you receive any cold calls after you are displaying your sticker.We ask that the ‘No Cold Calling Home’s sticker is displayed on your front door in a prominent position.

What does the law state?

The law states that: ‘It is a criminal offence for a trader to conduct personal visits to a consumer’s home ignoring their request to leave or not to return, except if the visit is justified to enforce a contractual obligation’.
Therefore where traders visit properties which are clearly ‘No Cold Calling Homes’ Trading Standards can take appropriate action against them to help ensure they do not return.
