Annual Performance Report 2014/15
Torbay Council’s Spatial Planning Team is performing above government speed and quality standards for making decisions on planning applications.
The latest Spatial Planning Performance report, covering the last two years, shows that 85% of all major planning applications and 65% of smaller applications are dealt with within time - 13 weeks and 8 weeks respectively. The report also shows that 85% of major development proposals are approved; 90% of smaller applications are approved; and the Council wins 97.5% of appeals for major development and 68% of appeals for smaller developments. Examples of the high quality decisions made by the Council include the award winning Abbey Sands development, the South West Energy Centre at South Devon College and the 140 low energy new homes at Beechfield, Torquay – which won a national award for best starter homes.
Finding out about planning applications
If you are interested in finding out about one particular application we would first advise that you search the Planning Online database. Here you can establish whether a formal application for planning permission has been submitted to us (all applications appear on Planning Online as soon as they are valid) and full details and plans for all formal applications are available to view from there.
If you are interested in finding out more about a planning application that you’ve read about in an article in the local press then please note that these applications are often at pre-planning stage and a formal application may not yet have been submitted to Torbay Council. You may also find more information about larger schemes by visiting or contacting the Torbay Development Agency .
