Safer Food, Better Business
What’s the new system?
In January 2006 new food safety legislation came into force requiring all food businesses to have a ‘documented food safety management system’.
This system must take into account the degree of risk presented by the different operations in a business and must provide evidence that appropriate controls and monitoring systems are in place.
How to comply with the law?
We are not expecting businesses to comply with this requirement unaided and there is lots of help and advice available to you as a business.
The Food Standards Agency has developed a pack called ‘Safer Food Better Business’ to help small to medium sized businesses comply with the new requirement for a documented food safety management system.
You can obtain a free Safer Food Better Business pack and diary refill from the Food Safety Team or from the
Food Standards Agency. There are a number of different packs available e.g. for caterers, retailers and also a number for ethnic businesses such as Indian and Chinese restaurants and takeaways.
DVD to explain Safer Food Better Business Pack
To accompany the Safer Food Better Business Pack a DVD guide is available in 16 different languages and has been produced to help you use your Safer Food, Better Businesses (SFBB) pack and train your staff in SFBB.
