What job vacancies are there at Torbay Council?

As a Unitary Authority, Torbay Council is responsible for all Local Authority services in the Torbay area including schools, leisure, social services and environment.  This means there are a wide range of jobs on offer from administrators, carers, democratic services assistants, environmental health officers,  financial accountants, landscape gardeners, housing officers, IT technicians, to policy officers, refuse collectors, social workers, teachers and teaching assistants, tourist information staff, urban designers.

Important Information for Job Applicants - Job Evaluation (updated October 2009)

Torbay Council is currently undertaking a Job Evaluation exercise and notified all relevant staff of the proposed results/grades on the 31st March 2009.
The proposed resutls/grades are still subject to an appeals process, which is currently being undertaken.
The local government unions are still to ballot their members on whether to accept or reject the outcome of this process.
We are hoping for these processes to be concluded and the new results/grades formally implemented by 31 March 2010.

How does this affect job applicants?

  • Until the new pay and grading structure has been implemented, interim arrangements have been put in place for posts advertised after 1 April 2009
  • The salary of posts advertised from 1 April 2009 will be at the equivalent grade on the current pay and grading structure of the evaluated post.
  • The advertised salary remains subject to Job Evaluation and as such it is possible that the advertised salary / grade may go up, down or stay the same.
  • Where the advertised post is a newly created post, a re-evaluation of the job will be undertaken between 3 and 6 months of the post holder being in situ.
  • Successful job applicants starting on or after 1 April 2009 will not be eligible for pay protection where the final evaluation outcome is at a grade lower than that appointed on.
  • Successful job applicants starting on or after 1 April 2009 will be eligible to back dated pay to their date of starting in the post where the final evaluation outcome is greater than the grade appointed on.
