MAJOR HIGHWAY RESURFACING WORKS 2007/2008

Torbay Council has commenced a substantial programme of carriageway reconstruction and resurfacing works throughout Torbay for the current financial year.

The Council have again secured significant funding from Central Government as part of its Local Transport Programme for the current financial year and is taking the opportunity to invest in the following improvements totalling approximately £600,000 in value during the forthcoming Autumn and Winter period.

The works are being carried out to replace sections of the highway that are nearing the end of their residual life and are therefore becoming a maintenance burden upon Council funds.

The works will be carried out on a rolling programme and will commence during October 2007 through to December 2007 starting with surfacing works to Babbacombe Downs Road, Torquay, followed by Tweenaway Cross, Totnes Road, Torquay Road and Cecil Road, Paignton and Bolton Cross, Brixham.

The proposed start dates for all these works will be notified by advance warning signs, placed at the locations concerned at least 1 week in advance and affected residents will be informed in writing. There will obviously be a degree of disruption during these works and some road closures and lane closures will be required during this time, however each scheme will be of a relatively short duration and every effort will be made to keep any inconvenience to a minimum.
