Bikeability - Cycling Proficiency for the 21st Century

Bikeability is the Cycling Proficiency Test for the 21st century, designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today's roads.

Training Levels

There are three different levels of Bikeability training:

  1. Teaches basic bike handling skills in an off-road environment and is ideally suited to children aged between 7-9 years old.
  2. Is covered on quiet roads with real traffic conditions and is available to children aged 10 and older.
  3. Is carried out on busier roads with more complex road junctions and is suited to secondary aged children and adults.

Each Bikeability level builds on the skills and experience gained from the previous level and real-life cycling away from the training area.

Torbay Council is working in many local schools delivering Bikeability to children in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. If your children’s school is not currently scheduled for a Bikeability course, you can access the training at our holiday club, based at Shiphay Primary School in Torquay. For more information on the holiday club, please contact us by e-mail by clicking on the link on the right hand panel.
