Child Protection Procedures - A cropped image of a young girl sitting on some steps with her head in her hands. Visit our gallery.

Child protection procedures set out how organisations and individuals should work together to safeguard and promote the welfare children.

It is addressed to practitioners and front-line managers who have particular responsibilities for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and to senior and operational managers, in organisations that:

  • Are responsible for commissioning or providing services to children, young people, and adults who are parents/carers
  • Have particular responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

There are two sets of procedures currently available online, the current procedures (shared by Plymouth, Torbay and Devon) and the procedures that will replace them which are being developed by a South West region consortium of authorities of which Torbay is a part.

The reason for having two sets of procedures is that the new procedures are still being developed. It will therefore be necessary to refer to the parts of the ‘old’ procedures that are not yet available in the ‘new’ procedures.

In the first instance please refer to the South West Child Protection Procedures (SWCPP) by clicking on the hperlink below, and then if necessary, refer to the Devon Child Protection Procedures.
