Who are Sport England?
Sport England are an organisation committed to creating opportunities for people to:
- Start - to improve the health of the nation, particularly for the disadvantaged groups
- Stay - through a thriving network of clubs, coaches and volunteers, and a commitment to equity
- Succeed in sport - via an infrastructure capable of developing world class performers
Sport England provides the strategic lead for sport in England and is responsible for delivering the Government’s sporting objectives in this country. Since 1994 they have invested over £1.8 bn into sport in England.
What do Sport England do?
Sport England work hard to make England more active by encouraging people to get involved with sport and physical activity. Working through nine regional offices, in tandem with their regional sports boards, their knowledge base and expertise in sports development drives their work with:
- government
- local authorities
- health professionals
- national governing bodies
- teachers
- the voluntary sector
- the commercial sector
Sport England distribute funding and invest in a range of sporting projects, including the Active England Fund. Sport England also influences the decision-makers and public opinion on sport.
