Expected Standards
YES - We Will or X - We Wont
View the information below to find out what we will and won't do:
Whole Site
- YES - Work to good current horticultural practice.
- YES - When leaving the site it should be left in a tidy condition.
- YES - Treat with respect any areas being tended by residents.
- X - Maintenance of private or un-adopted areas.
- X - Management of planting undertaken on Council land without consent.
- X - Land belonging to The Riviera Housing Trust or un-adopted land and lanes.
Hedges
- YES - Cut sides and top as necessary to maintain neat, tidy hedges that do not obstruct or overhang.
- X - Cut hedges to create or maintain private views.
- X - Cut hedges on Highways (this is included in Highway Maintenance).
- X - Cut hedges during the bird nesting season, as covered by leglislation, Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended) and Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000.
Play Areas
- YES - Visit every site every three working days.
- YES - Safety inspection of equipment and area.
- YES - Remove litter and glass.
- X - Provide a full time presence on site.
- X - Restrict use out of daylight hours.
Sports Pitches
- YES - Supply all posts and fixings for goals.
- YES - Mark pitches in accordance with requirements laid down by the governing body.
- YES - Minor re-instatement of pitches between games and a full re-instatement at the close of the season.
- X - Supply nets, equipment, benches etc.
General Grass Cutting
- YES - We will keep between 25mm (1 inch) and 130mm (5 inches).
- YES - We will clear cuttings from paths
- X - We will not collect grass cuttings.
- X - We will not control weeds, pests and diseases.
Rough Grass Cutting
- YES - We will keep between 130mm (5 inches) and 400mm (16 inches)
- YES - We will clear cuttings from paths
- X - We will not collect grass cuttings
- X - We will not control weeds, pests and diseases.
Wildflower Areas
- YES - Cut once to a height of 125mm (5 inches) when plants have set seed.
Formal Flower Beds
- YES - Flower beds and hanging baskets will be watered and kept in a turgid condition.
- YES - Weeds will be kept to 5% or less of the surface area and dead flower heads will be removed as required.
Seats & Benches
- YES - These are to be kept clean, sound, safe and in an attractive condition. These include all donation benches.
Litter Collecting
- YES - Keep sites clean and tidy from litter when on site for other operations (e.g grass cutting).
Sweeping
- YES - Only a few paths are in the contract for sweeping
- YES - Leaf clearance will be done on paths when required, to keep them safe for pedestrian access.
Shrub Beds
- YES - Prune according to good horticultural practice.
- YES - Keep reasonably weed free by clearing when on site or by use of approved method.
- YES - Replace shrubs that die (planting in the winter).
- YES - Where there is mulch on the beds, keep it topped up and cut back shrubs as part of safety iniatives.
Trees
- YES - Inspect for safety and management purposes on a regular basis.
- YES - Carry out work as a result of the inspection to ensure that the tree is not actively dangerous; and to minimise risk of failure.
- YES - We will prune to allow clear passage of pedestrians, and, where appropriate, of vehicles.
- YES - Where a park is suffering from unlawful activity, we will liaise with the Police and carry out such pruning work as is appropriate without damaging the tree(s), to allow better visibility in the park and to reduce the perceived risk from anti-social behaviour.
- YES - Where trees have to be removed because they have died or become dangerous, we will replace them unless site conditions make this impossible.
- X - Prune trees to create or maintain private views
- X - Cut back vegetation which overhangs private property except as a result of normal maintenance works.
- X - Prune trees to improve light levels in adjacent properties.
- X - Prune trees to improve or allow reception of satellite TV signals/Terrestrial TV signals.
- X - Prune trees to abate a perceived problem with falling leaves, twigs, and fruit or air circulation on adjoining private land.
