Bay Blooms Competition

Thank you to everyone who attended the Bay Blooms Presentation Evening on the 7th October 2008 at Paignton Zoo.

All 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Highly Commended entrants were invited to attend the event along with many Parks Friends groups, “In Bloom” groups and other people involved in Bay Blooms.

The event was enjoyed by all and a special thank you goes to our sponsors, Suttons, Herald Express, Plant World and Gemini FM.

Preparations are underway for next year’s event!

Competition Information

The Bay Blooms competition is an annual horticultural event that encourages residents and businesses to improve the look of their local area.

There are 24 Categories in the “free to enter” competition, please select the category which best describes your area or entry. Each person can enter up to three categories:

  • Area or Road
  • Bank, Building Society or Professional Organisation
  • Club
  • Environmentally Friendly Garden
  • Flat
  • Self Catering Establishment
  • Holiday Park
  • Special Commendation
  • Community Environment Project
  • Garden Vegetable Patch/ Allotment plot
  • Public Buildings or Other Premises
  • Public House or Restaurant
  • Shop/Store/Other Retail Premises (under 30ft/over 30ft)
  • School Environmental Project
  • Residential/Nursing Home
  • Hotel (Large)
  • Guest House
  • Hotel (Small)
  • Private Basket or Other Container
  • Commercial Basket or Other Container
  • Private Garden - Brixham
  • Private Garden - Paignton
  • Private Garden – Torquay
  • Superclass

Those residents that gained a first place in each category last year are automatically entered into the Superclass category this year and are unable to enter any of the other categories.

Each entry is individually assessed by the judges during July/early August and the results are published in the Herald Express from the middle of August onwards.  All entrants are notified of their result by letter.

Those entrants obtaining 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Highly Commended awards are invited to the Awards Ceremony in October.

There is also a separate category for Brixham residents to enter the Brixham in Bloom competition.

The closing date for Bay Blooms entries is June 18.

The competition is kindly sponsored by Sutton Seeds, Torbay Council and the Herald Express.

The Bay Blooms team are always on the look out for new judges and would welcome anyone who has a keen interest in horticulture to put their name forward.
