Pilots

Torbay Council are the Competent Harbour Authority and pilotage is compulsory for larger vessels navigating within Tor Bay Harbour limits.  Local pilotage is provided by Torbay and Brixham Shipping Agents under contract to the Harbour Authority.

Torbay & Brixham Shipping Agents Ltd have been established on the South Coast of the U.K. since the 1920's operating in Tor Bay and offshore.  They operate a 24 hour service with two fast pilot launches [for personnel & small loads], a 24m steel workboat [for diving support, larger quantities of stores plus coastal towage] plus a 300 MT capacity fresh water barge.  Many ships use the area for shelter, embarking/disembarking Deep Sea Pilots, crew changes, storing, repairs or to await orders.

Tor Bay provides a safe anchorage suitable for repairs with good water visibility, ideal for inwater repairs and surveys in lieu of dry-docking.
