Walks in Torbay
A stretch of green and pleasant coast and countryside is never far away in Torbay. There are over 100 miles of footpaths, permissive routes and horse-riding routes criss-crossing Torbay. A selection of the best circular walks and routes are listed below.
South West Coast Path
This is a long distance route of 630 miles which follows the coast along the south west peninsula from Minehead to Dorset Poole Harbour. The Torbay section runs along the coast from Sharkham Point to Maidencombe. Visit the

Circular Walks
The English Riviera Tourist Board have published a booklet promoting 16 walks in Torbay and the surrounding area. The booklet is available from the Tourist office. However, the English Riviera walks leaflet (see
Related Documents) contains some of the walks that use a significant part of the PROW network.
Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust
The
Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust manage the majority of Torbay's open countryside including Cockington, Berry head and Sharkham Point. Attached is a link to the TCCT website which contains information on a number of walks and routes.
Greenway Walk
The Greenway Walk is a six mile trail around the estate of the Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie. This walk leads you to the National Trust’s historic Greenway from Torbay, following green lanes through the countryside of the South Devon area towards the Dart estuary and back through the village of Galmpton.
John Musgrave Heritage Trail
The John Musgrave Heritage Trail is a 35 mile trail which takes in a large section of South Devon’s wonderfully unique and varied landscape. The trail is split into four sections, Maidencombe to Cockington, Cockington to Totnes, Totnes to Dittisham and Greenway to Brixham. A large part of the trail is in Torbay. Bay Walks
Bay Walks is a programme of walks aimed to improve health in the Bay. Supported by Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust, the Primary Care Trust, Torbay Council and most importantly local residents. A programme of 12 walks regularly take place, Bay Walks is funded as part of the walking to way to health which is an initiative of the British Heart Foundation and National England. The initiative aims to improve the health and fitness of people. Bay Walks covers many areas with the aim to discover interesting and beautiful parts of the Bay and by taking part through organised walks enjoy the sociable side of walking.
English Riviera Geopark
The coastline of the English Riviera has been designated a national geopark. Further information on the Geopark trail is included on the
