Background to the Core Strategy:
The Core Strategy is the part of the Local Development Framework that sets out the broad aims and objectives for sustainable development in Torbay over the next 10 years. It outlines how the Council will deliver strategic development needs including housing, employment, leisure and retail. The Core Strategy will provide a framework for meeting the priorities of the Community Plan and Mayor's vision, where these involve the use of land.
Current stage within the planning process:
The ‘Preferred Options’ (Regulation 26) stage of the Core Strategy is currently being prepared as a result of comments received during the consultation period for the ‘Issues and Options’ (Regulation 25) stage. This sets out a proposed strategy, and the broad brush policies to achieve it.
Sustainability Appraisal:
It is essential that in deciding on which option is the most appropriate, consideration is given to the sustainability implications of each option. It is for this purpose that a brief sustainability appraisal has been compiled which outlines some of the key sustainability issues associated with each option.
Previous drafts of the Core Strategy:
The full documents and summary leaflets for previous drafts/stages of the Core Strategy are available below for information purposes only. The consultation period for these documents has now closed.
