Torbay Council has embarked on a district wide audit of trees on Public Open Spaces. Torbay’s Arboricultural Officers and appointed contractors will be completing this audit and carrying out safety works that are recommended. Unfortunately this will mean that any routine maintenance works other than that on Health and Safety grounds will have to be put on hold until the survey and necessary prioritised works have been completed.
Areas with trees will be inspected as identified by the audit and details recorded on the Councils database. Approximately twenty thousand trees will need to be inspected over the next four years. Once this survey is completed it will provide the Authority with a comprehensive list of important trees and their condition.
The Senior Arboricultural Officer said, "The safety of people and property is correctly an important concern of the Council and the survey means that we will have an accurate audit of the number and condition of our trees. Inspections are being undertaken by the Councils own Arboriculturalists and specialist consultants where necessary who are well qualified to identify all potential hazards."
If you have any further comments please contact the Senior Arboricultural Officer.
