Local residents, who care about their community, are being encouraged to branch out and play a key role in protecting their environment by signing up to a new tree warden scheme being launched by Torbay Council.
The tree warden scheme aims to promote the care, protection and conservation of trees and green spaces across the Bay. The scheme is part of a national initiative co-ordinated by the Tree Council.
Volunteer tree wardens have the opportunity to get involved in community activities such as regular watering of new saplings, designing local tree planting schemes, working with local schools on woodland studies, surveying trees and gathering information about them, caring for trees in their area and providing early warning of threats, disease, decay or vandalism.
Volunteers will be given free training covering topics such as planting and care, tree identification, legal issues, growing trees from seeds and threats to trees. The training courses and most events will be held at weekends.
To register for the Scheme that is due to be launched early 2007 please contact Hayley Regan 01803 207776.
