Show your support for the Torbay Fairtrade Campaign

  1. Choose Fairtrade
There are now over 2000 products with the Fairtrade mark, including tea, coffee, chocolate, fresh fruit, nuts, spices, rice, honey, jams, ice-cream, wines, fruit juice, cereal, cakes, biscuits and clothing. The range of Fairtrade certified products is expanding, and more and more are becoming available in local shops. Check out the online Directory to see where you can purchase Fairtrade products in Torbay. Look for the Fairtrade mark when you are doing your shopping, and if you can’t find what you are looking for, remember to ask!

  2. Eat and Drink Fairtrade
Look for Fairtrade products when you are eating or drinking out in Torbay. Many local cafes offer Fairtrade hot drinks or snacks, and the online Fairtrade Directory will point you in the right direction. Why not ask your favourite local café or restaurant to offer a Fairtrade option?

  3. Spread the Word
Introduce your friends to Fairtrade, perhaps by giving them a Fairtrade gift or birthday present. Can you introduce Fairtrade to your place of work, school, local club or society?

  4. Find Out More
Go to www.fairtrade.org.uk - to learn more about Fairtrade, download resources, get ideas for events, sign up for the ‘Fair Comment’ newsletter and lots more!

  5. Get involved
Show your support by coming along to Fairtrade events that are run in Torbay, or organise your own event!  Fairtrade food festivals, coffee mornings, quiz nights and fashion shows are all ways of raising awareness. If you have ideas for Fairtrade events or would be interested in joining the Steering Group, please contact us.

How can Torbay businesses and organisations support Fairtrade?

  • By switching to Fairtrade you can ensure that producers in developing countries receive a fair price for their goods, and benefit from an additional premium that is invested in community development projects. Using Fairtrade products can improve the ethical performance and public image of your business and respond to increasing demand for Fairtrade options.

  • Start using Fairtrade products in your work place - in the staff canteen, vending machines, at meetings and conferences.

  • Speak to your catering manager about offering Fairtrade food and drink to staff and visitors. You may be able to source these from your existing supplier. Alternatively, more information on Fairtrade suppliers can be found on the Fairtrade Foundation website.

  • Visit www.fairtradeatwork.org.uk for more ideas and information on making the switch to Fairtrade.

  • Pledge your support - email us at fairtrade@torbay.gov.uk to let us know what actions your business or organisation is taking to support Fairtrade.

These are some of Torbay’s businesses and organisations that already offer a Fairtrade option to their staff:

  • Torbay Council
  • South Devon College
  • Paignton Zoo
  • Plymouth and South Devon Co-op
  • Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust
