Renewable Energy - Picture of a field containing wind turbines.

Renewable energy technologies use the readily available energy from the sun, wind, waves, tide, water or bio-products from managed forests to provide energy that doesn’t emit carbon dioxide or contribute to climate change.

Through the Low Carbon Buildings Programme householders, community organisations, schools, the public and not for profit sectors can receive grants for microgeneration renewable energy technologies. Grants of between 20% and 50% of the costs are available for the purchase and installation of any combination of the following technologies:

  • Solar photovoltaics.
  • Wind turbines.
  • Small hydro.
  • Solar thermal hot water.
  • Ground source heat pumps.
  • Bio-energy.
  • Renewable combined heat and power
  • Micro combined heat and power
  • Fuel cells.

For further information visit the Low Carbon Buildings Programme or telephone 0800 915 0990 (freephone) for householders or 08704 23 23 13 for all other enquiries.

Please be advised that for most of the renewable energy technologies mentioned above you will have to seek planning permission. Please contact Development Management on 01803 207801 for further advice.
