Torbay Council has been undertaking a Job Evaluation exercise which has now been completed and following negotiations with local government unions the results released on 31 March 2009.
The local government unions will ballot their members on whether to accept or reject the outcome of this process.
The final outcome is also subject to an appeals process, which is currently being undertaken.
How does this affect job applicants?
  • Until the new pay and grading structure has been implemented, interim arrangements have been put in place for posts advertised after 1 April 2009
  • The salary of posts advertised from 1 April 2009 will be at the equivalent grade on the current pay and grading structure of the evaluated post.
  • The advertised salary remains subject to Job Evaluation and as such it is possible that the advertised salary / grade may go up, down or stay the same.
  • Where the advertised post is a newly created post, a re-evaluation of the job will be undertaken between 3 and 6 months of the post holder being in situ.
  • Successful job applicants starting on or after 1 April 2009 will not be eligible for pay protection where the final evaluation outcome is at a grade lower than that appointed on.
