Torbay Council Children’s Services is calling on local groups and organisations to get involved in a multi million pound ‘myplace’ bid to create a new and impressive facility for young people in the Bay.
The Big Lottery Fund is delivering ‘myplace’ on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF). Channelled through the Big Lottery Fund, ‘myplace’ will invest £190 million through grants of between £1m and £5m over the next three years, in ambitious projects driven by the active participation of young people. This will support the government’s Children’s Plan pledge to provide exciting safe places for all young people to go to, and where they can engage in a wide range of positive activities such as sport, dance and music in addition to accessing advice, support and information.
Local partners will be expected to work together to identify and develop high quality proposals that will lead to:
Young people have a crucial part to play in this process and funding will only be allocated where there is evidence of real participation from young people in the development, design and future running of projects.
The launch of ‘myplace’ is a major step forward in delivering the government's Aiming High for Young People Strategy to provide opportunities and safe place to go for young people. The initiative clearly demonstrates commitment to empowering young people, putting them in the lead to shape every aspect of design and delivery.
Torbay is currently seeking local businesses, schools and partners to register their interest in getting involved with the ‘myplace’ bid. The timescales are very tight but we are confident that we can produce a successful multi-agency bid that will meet the needs of children and young people locally.
