Schools Repairs & Maintenance Service Level Agreements

Through further delegation of building maintenance and the introduction of devolved formula capital, schools now have a much greater stake in the maintenance of their premises.

There is a division of responsibility between the local authority and schools for the maintenance of school premises. Only Capital Expenditure is retained by the local authority for building related works. Funding for Revenue Work to the premises has been delegated to schools, through the School Funding Formula.

As a result of this delegation, Head teachers and Governing Bodies are responsible for all elements of building maintenance covered by statute.

How can property services assist you?

To assist schools with meeting their legal responsibilities, Property Services have set up a number of Repairs and Maintenance Service Level Agreement contracts, listed below. You can download and view copies of the Service Level Agreement contracts (SLA) from the Related Documents panel below.

The purpose of these SLA's are to offer schools access to the appropriate professional advice and to contractors who can provide a service which can minimise the direct management input required by schools.

Are schools getting value for money?

Costs are based on competitive tendered figures, these having been obtained from the major specialist companies in the area.  It is anticipated that by issuing a contract covering a number of schools a saving in the region of 5–10% can be made on the cost of individual property requests.  Also it must be remembered that the SLA will give you access to the technical expertise required to manage and interpret the information provided by the surveyors.
