Property Handbook

Through the increased delegation of building maintenance and capital monies, schools have a greater responsibility for the management of their premises.

To assist schools with their duties the LA prepared the Property Handbook.  The booklet explains the new partnership between the LA and schools, (and the LA, Diocese and schools for VA schools) and sets out the shared responsibilities for the repair, maintenance and development of school buildings.  Recent changes have meant that schools now have a statutory duty to perform certain tasks that were previously carried out for them.  It is vital that schools ensure that they have adequate arrangements to meet these responsibilities and this handbook has been compiled to assist them with the process.

In addition the handbook also provides information, guidance and support to assist schools in making decisions about needs and priorities for future investment. The handbook is regularly reviewed and will be updated as and when the need arises.

The handbook was first published in 2004. It has since been updated and a second edition was published in 2006. You can download a copy of the latest version from the Related Documents panel below.
