Aims and Objectives
This group is the Local Implementation Group for the National Service Framework (NSF) for Mental Health and feeds into the Devon and Torbay Local Implementation Team which is responsible for reporting progress. The purpose of the group is to consider Torbay services in the light of the NSF and to identify and prioritise areas where improvement and development are needed to reach national standards.
Achievements to Date
The Group has been actively involved in designing and commissioning services to meet identified areas of need. These include:
Plans for the Future
There is a workplan for 2003/04 for Devon and Torbay which identifies individuals and groups to lead on specific issues across the mental health care community. Some of the key areas require local work specifically whereas others require a larger community on which to base a service or strategy. Members of the Torbay Local Implementation Group will be engaged fully in this process. One of the main roles for Summer 2003 was the completion of the self assessment, which tracked improvements to the service.
Our priority is to identify areas where services in Torbay need improvement and to seek funding for these, as appropriate.
The current priorities for mental health nationally include Crisis Resolution, Assertive Outreach, Early Intervention in Psychosis and Carers' Services. There are also requirements to modernise the workforce with the development of new types of post.
In order to progress these issues, and many others, the Local Implementation Group has 5 sub groups, including one looking at older people's mental health. These involve a wider network of people and most have representation from service users and carers.
