The Tormohun Ward Partnership is attempting to develop a long term vision for the Ward and we recognise within the ward boundaries there are several geographical communities and communities of interest.
Our aim is to identify the medium and long term priorities for Tormohun Ward within the context of local and national priorities e.g. Every Child Matters, Community Plan, Local Area Agreements, local Development Framework, Economic Strategy, Extended Schools, Harbour Development, Community safety strategy etc.
As part of this process we are writing to various community organisations and statutory agencies to gather their views and any group that wants to participate and that has not received a survey letter should contact Torbay Voluntary Service 11 Castle Road, Tel 212638 or e mail info@torbayvs.co.uk.
We will also be undertaking public consultation using Torbay Council Caravan on 23rd February 10.00 a.m. – 4.00 p.m. outside Woolworths and gathering the views of the public as part of this exercise. The results will then be collated and a public meeting will be held to finalise the plan for Tormohun. We want as many people as possible to participate in this exercise to ensure the vision we create for Tormohun represents all sections of the community.
Tormohun Talks
On 14 November the Tormohun Ward Partnership held an open meeting at the Riveria Centre for residents, businesses and community groups who live or are active in the Ward.
The Tormohun Ward Partnership has been in existence in its current form since June 2004 and core group of people have been meeting regularly. The open meeting was held to let people know what the partnership has been doing, and to encourage more people to get involved.
Over thirty people congregated at the Edith Murel suite, generously provided for free by the Riviera Centre. Carole Schneider, the group’s temporary chair, outlined the activities the partnership have already got up and running - promotion of the Know the Code campaign on safe drinking, and the Stop Crime Campaign in the area, potential development of a junior street warden initiative and setting up a safer pub award scheme.
Looking forward, the participants were provided with information on new developments in the Ward, and asked to comment on the issues they felt were most important to the people living and working in Tormohun.
The steering group will be taking these issues forward in 2006.
