Members of the public can access the Internet free of charge using Viewpoint Terminals at Brixham, Churston, Paignton and Torquay libraries.
Wi-Fi is short for Wireless Fidelity and is a wireless technology that allows computers to network together. Wi-Fi can connect PC’s, Notebooks and PDA’s to enable them to share internet connections, printers and documents. Wi-Fi can function at a distance of about 300 feet. Its ability to group computers without wires means its common place in public places, such as hotels, airports, coffee shops and offices. Wi-Fi is capable of transfer speeds at up to 54mbps.
There are currently 51 (April 2008) wireless internet connections points operating within Torbay.
