Your councillor is elected every 4 years to represent your area. They give a voice for your community and help shape Council services to benefit local people.
They can also assist you if you need help or are not happy with Council services by advising or directing you to someone who can help. Sometimes councillors can investigate your problem on your behalf.
Some councillors hold surgeries where you can meet councillors and discuss any problems.
Torbay Council has 36 councillors and an elected Mayor.
Find out who your councillor is by visiting the councillors’ names and addresses webpage.
If you are not sure which ward you live in, you can find your councillor by using your postcode by clicking the link to the Councillor.gov.uk website on the right.
What can I do if I am not happy with a councillor’s behaviour?
When the Mayor and councillors are first elected they have to agree to follow a code of conduct and register their interests. If you are not happy with a councillor’s behaviour you can complain to the Standards Board for England. Click on Councillors’ behaviour and interests for more information.
