Naming Ceremony

This ceremony is designed to welcome a new baby or young child/children to the family unit.

It is an opportunity to declare your love for your child publicly and to make promises before your family and friends. It enables family and friends to confirm the lifelong relationship they will have with your child to provide love and support to both your child and yourself.

The ceremony is a perfect way to celebrate the birth of a new child but can equally be suited to welcome an older child or to acknowledge step children into the new family.

The ceremony can be written especially for you to celebrate your new arrival and to include the naming of older children too if you wish, or for the children of your family to be included in the naming.

Grandparents are especially welcome, as often in today’s family unit, they are far away, so it’s a bonus to have them with us on the day.

The ceremonies can be organised by either parent or by anyone who has parental responsibility for the child.

Here at Torbay Register Office our dedicated team of Registrars will discuss your requirements and plan the Ceremony with you to include family, supporting adults and friends. You can choose poetry and readings to be included in the ceremony and our staff will guide you through the options.
