Life Event - Dealing with Crime

All of us at some time in our lives will, unfortunately, be affected by crime, either as victims or as witnesses. Whether you are someone who wants to report a crime, are a victim, or want advice on crime prevention, these pages will provide you with information and advice on a range of areas.

Emergencies

In and emergency you should dial 999.

Reporting a Non-emergency Crime

Notify - Non-Emergency Minor Crime - Try to give as much information as possible as well as full details of how you can be contacted.

Community Safety

Torbay Council is dedicated to making Torbay a better place to work and live and the reduction of crime and disorder in Torbay is now the responsibility of a dedicated team who work closely with a wide variety of individuals, community groups, businesses and organisations across the bay.

The Safer Communities partnership is made up of:

For more information on the partnership and the initiatives listed above visit Safer Communities Torbay.

Street Wardens

Our Street Wardens look after specific communities within Torbay and patrol their neighbourhood, meeting residents or organising projects. They offer a visible presence in the streets they patrol and help maintain public reassurance.

Crime Prevention

There are steps you can take yourself to try to prevent crime:

  • Home Safety
  • Personal Safety
  • Retail and Business
  • Vehicle Crime

Visit the Crime Reduction website for further information and advice.

Victims of Crime

Being a victim of crime can be a very traumatic experience - you may feel you need support to help you cope with the effect the crime has had on you. Victim Support is an independent national charity that offers advice and support to Victims of Crime, whether you have reported the incident or not.

Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence can happen in any relationship, whether you are a man, woman or child and whether the relationship is heterosexual, gay/lesbian, or child/parent. If you, or someone you know, is a victim of domestic violence, the following link will provide you with information, help and support.

Discrimination and Racial Abuse

Discrimination or abuse is when someone is treated worse than another person would be in the same situation for reasons of colour, race, ethnicity, age, disability or nationality. These links will provide you with advice, guidance and support on how to deal with this kind of abuse.
