Levels of obesity are rising amongst our population and in particular amongst children. General levels of obesity have trebled in England over the past 20 years and are still rising.
The recent increase can be linked to Environmental factors:
With more and more meals being eaten outside the home, you as a caterer are in an ideal position to influence the public and where better to start than with children.
The Eat Wise Guide for Caterers pack aims to give you ideas and information to help you make simple but effective changes to your children’s menu.
Caterers have a direct influence over the meals that are prepared for customers and can therefore directly affect the nutritional quality of their diet. It would not be wise to rapidly change the menu but simple changes in food selection, preparation and cooking can be achieved. Healthier choices can be offered as alternatives e.g. jacket potatoes, wholemeal bread as well as a range of vegetables.
The Eat Wise Pack contains a range of recipes, basic hygiene guidelines and other useful information and can be downloaded below.
You will also find an application form under 'Do It Online' should you wish to apply for the Torbay Eat Wise Award if you have made a few simple changes to your children’s menu.
You can really make a difference and be part of a larger network of organisations and individuals who are helping future generations towards a healthier diet.
