Business Volunteer Mentors

Run by Enterprise Plymouth with Objective 2 support the service is available to business in the eligible areas of Torbay. BVM is based on a core of volunteers – both retired and otherwise – who are drawn from all sections of the business community and who provide support for people looking to start their own business, or already running a small business.

The mentors are able to act in different ways to assist the client. Some prefer to have a mentor who is there to hold their hand whereas others require a more involved relationship, and help with specific issues. The mentor can help the client cope with change, to reduce the isolation of starting and running a business, and to act as a sounding board wherever needed. Mentors follow an induction and training programme, leading to a final coaching/assessment session after which they are able to assist clients alone.

Retired or semi retired business people are brokered by Enterprise Plymouth to work with relatively new or small businesses who are keen to grow, the idea being that the experience of the business person helps the business to look at good practice from other areas or avoid making similar mistakes. You can contact them direct for a better explanation of the scheme on 01752 213595.
