Torquay Connections Closure

Service to customers will be maintained when Torbay Council's Torquay Connections office is closed temporarily to undergo major refurbishment works.

The six-week closure of the office in Union Street next to the Town Hall will take effect from 12 noon this Friday, 27 June, enabling work to be carried out that will provide improved and increased facilities for customers.

During the closure period, reduced office cover will be provided in the reception area at Roebuck House in Warren Road/Abbey Road, and in the foyer at Torquay Library in Lymington Road, where there is a public car park.

However, instead of visiting these temporary facilities with fewer staff than usual, customers are advised to ring (01803) 207201 for housing benefit enquiries, and 207207 for council tax enquiries.

The Connections office is scheduled to re-open at 8.30am on Monday 11 August. It will have eight reception points instead of the current four desks, and the number of consulting rooms will increase from two to six, offering more privacy to those who need it. Other facilities will include self-service internet portals, an automated payment machine, improved security, and drop-in surgeries with the Pension Service and Torbay Pound.

The office will also be able to accommodate the housing reception and appointments service which will be moving from Pearl Assurance House.

Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Community Engagement, Cllr Louisa Aiton, said: "The popularity of the Connections offices has been growing steadily over the last few years. In order to keep up with the demand for this service we feel it is essential to carry out these improvement works costing in the region of £100.000.

"We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused during the closure period.

"However, we place great importance on customer service. Our three Connections offices in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham have proved to be invaluable first stop shops for dealing with enquiries about all council services and for making appointments, and the refurbishment will enable us to deliver an improved service."
