I want to sell goods from a stall in the street – What do I need?

Anyone who sells, or exposes goods for sale, in any area other than a shop may only do so if consent has been obtained. Unfortunately, these are not easy to obtain as this activity may be prohibited in some areas. Please contact the Licensing Department for specific information. Torbay Council does, however, have a limited number of sites where such trading is allowed. For further enquiries, please contact the Estates Division for specific location advice.

No permission is required to work as a door person in pubs and most entertainment premises. Nightclubs and some holiday camps are required to have their staff trained and registered once suitability and police checks have been carried out. Further information on the requirements can be obtained from the club licensees.

What sort of event does not need a Public Entertainment Licence?

A Licence is required for any entertainment of a musical or similar nature to which the public is admitted. Whether an entrance charge is made is not relevant. A licence is not required if the event is a private function to which the general public is not admitted or any musical element is not a significant aspect of what is being offered. However, as the matter is complicated, please contact Licensing for specific information.
