Thank you for taking the time to look at our current children’s social care vacancies within Torbay. I do hope you find my welcome and introduction helpful in deciding whether to apply for a position.
The most recent Ofsted Inspection (January 2016) graded services as inadequate, resulting in the appointment of an improvement partner, Hampshire County Council, to assist with the necessary programme of improvement work and help develop a sustainable model for future service provision. I joined Torbay Council in July 2016, as part of that improvement process, and we continue to benefit from ongoing support from Hampshire colleagues as we move forward. Torbay is now progressing well in its improvement journey and following their most recent monitoring visit, Ofsted concluded that ‘the senior leadership team is now well placed to continue to deliver the ambitious and well targeted plan.’ Ofsted also noted that direct work with children and families is a strength in Torbay, something we are proud of and want to develop further.
Despite being a beautiful location on the English Riviera, Torbay has its share of deprivation, worklessness and families under real pressure, with all that implies for practice. However, this is an exciting time to join Torbay as we are working with an outstanding partner with a proven track record of improving services. We value and respect the challenging role of a Social Worker and are working hard to ensure that practitioners have the tools they need, alongside ongoing professional development opportunities. We have invested extensively in training, new technologies and business support to ensure we keep a clear focus on the child at the centre of all our work. We have an attractive package of employment and relocation options, including retention payments for some posts.
No service or leadership, my own included, can be perfect and no organisation working in this field will be without its challenges in these difficult times. What I can guarantee is that the commitment to change and the improvement of services and outcomes for children in Torbay is authentic. If you want to be part of that improvement journey we welcome receiving an application in due course.
