Torbay Air Show Update

To consider the submitted report on a proposal to support the Torbay Air Show for 2019.

Tim Godfrey, Ex-Chairman of the Torbay Business Forum, current Chairman of English Riviera Business Improvement District (ERBID) and representative of Bishop Fleming attended the meeting and spoke in support of the Torbay Air Show and the benefits of this and other events to local business.

 

The Policy Development and Decision Group (Joint Operations Team) made the following recommendation to the Elected Mayor:

 

That the Elected Mayor be recommended to support the Torbay Air Show for 2019 through sponsorship, increasing income opportunities and reviewing the overall costs to ensure that the Air Show is delivered without any direct funding from the Council (unanimous).

 

The Elected Mayor considered the recommendation of the Policy Development and Decision Group (Joint Operations Team) set out above at the meeting and the record of decision, together with further information is attached to these Minutes.

Grinagog Festival 2019

To consider the submitted report on a proposal to support a scaled back version of the Grinagog Festival for 2019.

The Policy Development and Decision Group (Joint Operations Team) made the following recommendations to the Elected Mayor:

 

(i)         that the Elected Mayor be recommended to support Grinagog Festival 2019 and for the event to go ahead with the event being funded from proceeds raised from ticket income, sponsorship, and other income so that the event is delivered without any direct funding from the Council; and

 

(ii)        that new opportunities are explored to deliver a long-term sustainable version of Grinagog Festival from 2020 without any direct financial support from the Council (unanimous).
