(i)         that Elected Mayor Gordon Oliver be appointed as the Council’s representative on the Local Government Association Coast Special Interest Group (SIG) until May 2019; and

(ii)        that Councillor David Thomas be appointed as the Council’s representative on the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) until May 2019.

To ensure that Torbay Council is represented on the Local Government Association Special Interest Group and to appoint a new representative on the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership.

Torbay Council’s Chief Executive, Steve Parrock, currently sits on the Coastal Community Alliance Officers Group but the Council does not have an elected Member to represent us on the Members’ Local Government Association Coastal Special Interest Group (SIG), which is comprised of elected Members from coastal authorities around the coastline of England.

The SIG seeks to champion and represent the collective interests of coastal, estuarine and maritime communities through increasing awareness and debate on environmental, economic and social issues in relation to the coast and maritime environment.  It works in partnership with other organisations with complimentary aims and brings pressure on the Government to secure local government’s full involvement at all levels of policy formulation concerning the coast.  Their terms of reference can be found at https://lgacoastalsig.com/about/terms-of-reference/

It is proposed that Elected Mayor Oliver will become the Council’s representative on this outside body, following his resignation as the Council’s representative on the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership.

Councillor David Thomas is the Council’s representative on the Heart of the South West Joint Committee and it is therefore felt appropriate that he takes over the role as the Council’s representative on the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership.
